Founded in 1926 as Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Nationwide took on its current moniker in 1955.
Today, Nationwide sells car insurance along with a variety of other insurance products, including home, life, and commercial insurance.
Nationwide is rated No. 2 for both customer loyalty and most likely to be recommended by current customers to those shopping for car insurance.
The company also took the fourth spot in the following categories: best for customer service, handling claims, and most likely to be renewed by current policyholders.
While Nationwide didn’t have the lowest car insurance rates according to our study data, the company’s rates were lower than the national average for all categories except for drivers with one DUI.
Nationwide is rated No. 4 for customer service, based on our survey. When asked if they were completely satisfied with how easy it was to open a policy with Nationwide, 57% of respondents said yes.
Some 47% of respondents stated they were completely satisfied with how easy it was to contact Nationwide’s customer service.
While 50% of those surveyed said they were completely satisfied with the customer service provided. For those filing a claim, 46% stated they were completely satisfied.
