What is the purpose of National Pension Scheme (NPS)?

  • The account limit contribution under the scheme has been increased by 14 per cent. Earlier it used to be 10 per cent.
  • If the investor dies before the age of 60. Then the nominee will get the benefit of the amount.
  • If the investor is not able to invest as much as the minimum limit under the National Pension Scheme , then the account of the investor will be frozen.
  • The investor has to pay a penalty of ₹ 100 to unfreeze the account.
  • The minimum investment limit under NPS is Rs 6000.
  • The investor will get tax exemption on the purchase of annuity.
  • Under the scheme, the investor can claim tax deduction of 10 per cent of the gross income under section 80CCD(1) of the Income Tax Act in the aggregate limit of the amount. Under section 80 CCE, this limit has been increased to 1.5 lakhs.
